About the Study
The
I-471 Corridor centers on one of the region's major
transportation corridors. This nine-mile corridor includes
I-471, U.S. 27, I-275, KY 8 and KY 9 accommodating close to
a million vehicles every day. Since the opening of I-471
more than 25 years ago, daily Ohio River crossings have
quadrupled. Likewise, travel demand throughout the corridor
has also experienced dramatic growth.
This trend is expected to continue in the future.
The
I-471 Corridor Study will go beyond just searching for ways
to best handle traffic. It will focus on gaining a clear
understanding of the land use/transportation dynamic and
determine strategies to enhance the quality of life and
economic potential of Campbell County. The
Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments (OKI)
will work closely with community leaders, organizations and
the general public to provide a truly coordinated and
cooperative study that integrates economic and land use
components into transportation decision-making.
Study Progress
Since the
start of the I-471 Corridor Study in the summer of 2006, the
study has identified areas with safety and traffic flow
problems within the corridor. Preliminary work has been
conducted to identify multimodal options to address these
problems. These options will be evaluated for technical
merit and presented to the community for input. The study
team has selected the I-471/I-275 interchange for an
Interchange Modification Study based on its significance to
the corridor. This will include the study of a new full
access interchange south of the Three Mile partial
interchange on I-275. It is expected that the I-471 Corridor
Study will host a public open house in early spring 2008 to
gather input on the various options.
In
addition, the following tasks have been completed:
o
U.S.
27-Alexandria Pike Access Management Plan – Presented to the
public in June of 2007, included in this plan are
recommendations for a three-lane conversion from Crowell
Avenue to Blange Road and the installation of a
non-traversable median from Sunset Drive to the Meijer
store. The recommendations will be advanced for further
study.
o
U.S.
27-Alexandria Pike Traffic Signalization Optimization Plan –
This plan has been completed and forwarded to Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) for implementation.
The
I-471 Corridor Study is coordinating with the
I-471/KY 8 Interchange Modification
Project lead by KYTC. The results of the KY 8 Project
will include a preferred interchange option at KY 8 and will
impact the work the Corridor Study is conducting. For more

Project, please visit

Additional information will be posted to this Web site as it
becomes available. For more information on the I-471
Corridor Study, please see the
